Inflorescence: Household Items Go Houseplant

0 komentar

Somewhere between the household chores and houseplants lie this series of photographs by Swiss/Danish art group PUTPUT. Using culinary and cleaning items – like toilet brushes, multi-colored dusters and dish scrubbers – they have taken once plain houseplants and given them highly unexpected blooms, simply by planting the handle of these plastic items in the center of each pot. The items, displayed in such an unusual context, trick the eye and give a first impression that we are looking at something completely lifelike… but soon the obvious trick reveals itself. Fictional or not, these beautiful photographs are certain to make an impression.

PUTPUT, an art group established in 2011 in Copenhagen, Denmark, seeks to “occupy the space between input and output and work as an information processing device, persistently dedicated to unconventional visual experimentation centered around conceptual thinking.” While that is quite a mouthful, the goal was certainly met in this photo series, as they transform the objects of daily life into something beautifully extraordinary. The photographs channel the classic still-life paintings of the past, perfectly expressing their goal to “focus on causing a visual double take.” In doing so they blur the boundaries between ideas, meanings, expressions and in this case, artifacts.
